EP Haiku Mon Cheri

March 9th, 2010

MelangeEP Haiku: Melange by Mon Cheri

New Grown Up Sounds that,

Fits Different Styles and Tastes

Serious and Fun.

5 out of 5

When you purchase this EP you will notice on the back it will have the definition of melange: a mixture of often incongruous elements. Well I decided to look up the exact definition of incongruous and found that it means not harmonious. Well yes the EP is a mixture of elements but it is harmonious; thee notes, vocals, beats etc MUSIC agrees with each other well. Each song on the EP has something different to offer. Like the first song, my favorite, features a harmonica a bit more twang then Mon Cheri normally has. The second song still sweeps me off my feat with dreamy harmonies in a mellow heart aching tune. Daughter, the third song sounds a little like home for Mon Cheri, maybe because I have heard it a lotbut the saxophone adds sweet air to the bands affectionate sound. Psyche goes back to a rockin almost hint of alt-country fast fun song, that will have you saying Psyche over and over! Ear Worm. Opus is almost 8 minutes of tempo – changes and switches with this french burlesque beat in the background. Wild Things closes out the EP with a very sexy sounding Caroline that grabs your attention and lets you know this is Mon Cheri’s new EP  – Melange.

The EP Release Date is Friday, March 19th at their EP Release Show, see flyer below. E.P. recorded, mixed, and mastered by Jae Hame from Iconoclast in Spokane. Album Artwork by Caroline Francis – the band also DIY the whole packaging – love it!

Blues Cats for Kids

March 5th, 2010
It’s time once again for IEBS sponsored Blues Cats for Kids! The purpose of this event is to raise money to donate to local non-profit organizations that help children. 100% OF THE MONEY goes to Blues Cats For Kids for distribution to non-profit organizations such as Crosswalk and Project Safe Place. The event will be at the Spokane Valley Eagles, (16801 E. Sprague Ave, Spokane Valley), who have donated their facility to Blues Cats for Kids since the second year of the fundraiser, and also donate cash to help the IEBS help area youth. You’ll want to get there early for a good seat!

Besides hours and hours of great music and ample food and drink, you can also take advantage of the Blues Cats for Kids auction. Members of the Eagles, attendees, and numerous other generous folk always come up with some great items for us to bid on. Auction will be held between sets. Speaking of music, here is the lineup for this year’s event:

1:00 – 2:30pm: The Shades
3:00 – 4:30pm: DA & the Cruisers
5:00 – 6:30pm: Big Mumbo
7:00 – 8:30pm: VooDoo Church Blues
9:00 – 11:00pm: The Fat Tones

If you can’t stay all day – and night – stop by for a bit to get your mini-festival fix of great blues. And help local kids become blues musicians instead of …….
So get rid of the winter blahs and hear some outstanding blues on Saturday, March 6th at the Valley Eagles on East Sprague.

Doubling up on our opportunity to collect for non-profit organizations that offer help to those who need it, we are also asking that patrons bring food to donate to The Second Harvest Food Bank. Always in need of food and cash donations, the Food Bank is a likely candidate for our help. You know what is needed: canned goods, dry foods, peanut butter, pretty much anything that won’t spoil. Please give generously. We’ll collect it at the event and deliver it to the food bank.

Let’s all get out there and raise the roof with some great music and raise a ton of money for our area youth!

Seeing a Grammy in Person

March 1st, 2010

IMG_9026I went to Nashville last week to shoot some shows and had the opportunity to go to Luke Lewis’s house the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Mercury Records Nashville for a party. While meeting Luke and having the opportunity to mingle with country super stars such as Surgarland, Gary Allen and more. The true highlight for me was to walk into a room and see a Grammy in real life. I just had to take out my camera take a photo of it even though cameras were not allowed at the party…it was totally worth it.

Album Haiku Stitch by Alan Charing

February 26th, 2010

Album Haiku: Stitch by Alan Charing

Asking Life’s Questions

Upbeat, dark, expressing tunes

A music mixture.

4 out of 5

Each song on this album has something different to it. I have only listened to it a few times and each time I listen I pick up something new that I hadn’t caught before. It has a mixture of instruments and a bundle of different emotions. Even female vocals added in. This is the first I have heard about Alan Charing, I am intrigued to dig up A.C. Cotton now. Either way you should check out the alluring Mr. Charing.

Album Haiku Blind Pilot

February 26th, 2010

Album Haiku: Blind Pilot’s iTunes Session EP

Soft acoustic notes

It’s soothing and elegant

 Flying blind sky high

 4 out of 5

I enjoyed the five soul soothing American acoustic songs of this EP just as much as I enjoy this band live. Even in the infamous wedding favorite 3 Rounds and a Sound. It brought back the memory of them playing in the Empyrean in Spokane in a brick room with people and wine glasses scattered across the cold floor. They take over a mind and wrap you in to every ornate detail and instrument in the band. Your ears work to spot the different instruments as his vocals calm your mind into a midst of clouds. A Portland gem with a doubt. Click here to learn more about them.

Finding Fiction Needs Your Help!

February 8th, 2010

Hey we got this FROM THE FINDING FICTION NEWSROOM…(their Newsletter)

Hi Everyone,

We’re happy to let you know that we’ve been working on a new recording over this winter, and we’re very excited to get it out to your ears. But we need your help!

As you probably know, there are a lot of costs that go into recording and releasing a CD as an independent band. In conjunction with Kickstarter.com, we are raising funds to help us be able to release our recording to the fans we already have and to all the new ones we hope to meet in the near future. It’s kind of like a Telethon or a Public Television pledge drive. EVERY LITTLE BIT COUNTS! While it would be great if you could donate tons of money to the cause, the whole idea is that a little bit from a lot of supporters helps make the project go.

We are trying to raise $3000 by April 15th. With a little love from all the fans we’ve made over our last year of touring, we think we can reach this goal. But here’s the catch: if we don’t reach our goal by the date set, then we don’t get to use any of the money – it all goes back. So we really do need your help, even if it’s just a little bit.

But it’s not just all for us… there’s rewards for you too! Everything from a copy of the recording, having your name in the liner notes, all the way to a special performance just for you – all depending on your pledge.

Sorry Slayer Fans

January 26th, 2010

Just months after Slayer postponed a handful of Canadian tour dates due to singer/bassist Tom Araya’s back problems, the Huntington Park, CA, metal band has been forced to scrap all 49 dates of their U.S. and European Carnage Tour with Megadeth and Testament this spring. The reason: Araya’s back problems just won’t go away.

No Label Needed Contest and Series presented by Scion

January 20th, 2010

IT’S YOUR TURN FOR SUCCESS

SCION AND METALINSIDER.NET TEAM UP TO ANNOUNCE THE NO LABEL NEEDED CONTEST AND SERIES

Your band shows tremendous promise. You have accumulated a solid following, written memorable songs, put together a great live show and have real momentum. With help from MetalInsider – including advice from industry professionals including a mentoring session with Shadows Fall and the opportunity to record with super-producer, Machine – you’ll be well on your way to the next level.

The No Label Needed Contest and Series presented by Scion in collaboration with MetalInsider will help one band leave labels behind and take on the industry all on their own.  The series will show readers how it’s done, all while helping one special contest-winning band get ahead in a spectacular way.

From 1/18 through 2/1, unsigned acts can submit demo packages at www.metalinsider.net/nolabelneeded.  Twenty finalists will be selected and one winner will be voted on by a panel of label heads, A&R executives, writers, and site readers to win all the help and education they need to become a truly self-sufficient artist without having to sign a traditional record deal.

The winning band will receive a personalized, all-encompassing tutorial focused on the secrets and tips needed to achieve success in the music industry through DIY means of marketing.   Winners will be mentored by the members of Shadows Fall, will record an EP produced by Machine (Lamb of God, Every Time I Die, Suicide Silence), will shop for their stage and photo shoot clothing with Maria Brink (In This Moment) and Blasko (Ozzy) and receive advice from the likes of Ben Weinman of The Dillinger Escape Plan.  Their website will be re-designed, their merch re-imagined and radio and press campaigns mounted to promote their EP by the best in their fields.

The series is not only meant to be a learning experience for one band, it is meant to teach any dedicated musician who wants to learn how to properly market their craft.  Readers will be able to interact with contest partners and contributing musicians and professionals through the site to get some real insight into specific areas of expertise.
