Finding Fiction Needs Your Help!

February 8th, 2010

Hey we got this FROM THE FINDING FICTION NEWSROOM…(their Newsletter)

Hi Everyone,

We’re happy to let you know that we’ve been working on a new recording over this winter, and we’re very excited to get it out to your ears. But we need your help!

As you probably know, there are a lot of costs that go into recording and releasing a CD as an independent band. In conjunction with Kickstarter.com, we are raising funds to help us be able to release our recording to the fans we already have and to all the new ones we hope to meet in the near future. It’s kind of like a Telethon or a Public Television pledge drive. EVERY LITTLE BIT COUNTS! While it would be great if you could donate tons of money to the cause, the whole idea is that a little bit from a lot of supporters helps make the project go.

We are trying to raise $3000 by April 15th. With a little love from all the fans we’ve made over our last year of touring, we think we can reach this goal. But here’s the catch: if we don’t reach our goal by the date set, then we don’t get to use any of the money – it all goes back. So we really do need your help, even if it’s just a little bit.

But it’s not just all for us… there’s rewards for you too! Everything from a copy of the recording, having your name in the liner notes, all the way to a special performance just for you – all depending on your pledge.

Sorry Slayer Fans

January 26th, 2010

Just months after Slayer postponed a handful of Canadian tour dates due to singer/bassist Tom Araya’s back problems, the Huntington Park, CA, metal band has been forced to scrap all 49 dates of their U.S. and European Carnage Tour with Megadeth and Testament this spring. The reason: Araya’s back problems just won’t go away.

No Label Needed Contest and Series presented by Scion

January 20th, 2010

IT’S YOUR TURN FOR SUCCESS

SCION AND METALINSIDER.NET TEAM UP TO ANNOUNCE THE NO LABEL NEEDED CONTEST AND SERIES

Your band shows tremendous promise. You have accumulated a solid following, written memorable songs, put together a great live show and have real momentum. With help from MetalInsider – including advice from industry professionals including a mentoring session with Shadows Fall and the opportunity to record with super-producer, Machine – you’ll be well on your way to the next level.

The No Label Needed Contest and Series presented by Scion in collaboration with MetalInsider will help one band leave labels behind and take on the industry all on their own.  The series will show readers how it’s done, all while helping one special contest-winning band get ahead in a spectacular way.

From 1/18 through 2/1, unsigned acts can submit demo packages at www.metalinsider.net/nolabelneeded.  Twenty finalists will be selected and one winner will be voted on by a panel of label heads, A&R executives, writers, and site readers to win all the help and education they need to become a truly self-sufficient artist without having to sign a traditional record deal.

The winning band will receive a personalized, all-encompassing tutorial focused on the secrets and tips needed to achieve success in the music industry through DIY means of marketing.   Winners will be mentored by the members of Shadows Fall, will record an EP produced by Machine (Lamb of God, Every Time I Die, Suicide Silence), will shop for their stage and photo shoot clothing with Maria Brink (In This Moment) and Blasko (Ozzy) and receive advice from the likes of Ben Weinman of The Dillinger Escape Plan.  Their website will be re-designed, their merch re-imagined and radio and press campaigns mounted to promote their EP by the best in their fields.

The series is not only meant to be a learning experience for one band, it is meant to teach any dedicated musician who wants to learn how to properly market their craft.  Readers will be able to interact with contest partners and contributing musicians and professionals through the site to get some real insight into specific areas of expertise.

The Fall Haiku Review

December 1st, 2009

Album Haiku: The Fall by Norah Jones

Stronger pop music.

Buoyant with serene vocals.

Rock side of Norah.

I absolutely dig “The Fall!” I love its new music and beats mixed in with Norah’s distinct prominent vocals. I think the electric guitar makes her sound very musically charming. I adore her mellow tunes from the past but the new Norah is striking my fancy! I think it shows that she has changed as grown as a musician, but that she sounds great either way. There is talent there.

1)    Chasing Pirates

2)    Waiting

3)    Even Though

Though I will say I do like the album front to back! But Chasing Pirates, I had to ask who is this? It was so new sounding, fabulous!

5 out of 5

I and Love and You Haiku Review

December 1st, 2009

Album Haiku: I And Love And You by The Avett Brothers

Love, strings, heart, honest.

Their southern kindness flows out,

with sweet harmonies.

5 out of 5

I have listened to this album all day. I love its simple sound that in reality is complex and perfectly plucked and picked. When I listen to it, I feel like they are sitting in front of me performing the songs just for me. No one else, it wraps my attention like saran wrap to a bowl. It’s rich and beautiful. Not to mention Mr. Rubin put his touch on the album. I am going to recommend this album to everyone from my nana to the co-worker who I don’t even talk too. Ask Santa for it, I think he may even be rocking it in his big red sled.

Preferred Tracks:

1) January Wedding

2)Head Full Of Doubt/Road Full Of Promise

3)I and Love and You

Violens FREE Winter Mixtape

November 28th, 2009

I received this email and wanted to share it, thanks to the wonderful kids at TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS:

When Violens (vy-lenz’) began plotting their winter tour, they decided to create something to share with the audience overseas while working on their debut album.  The New York band has explored a myriad of sounds and styles this past year on their self-titled EP (Cantora), a 7” for the track “Lighting Lightning” (Chess Club, UK only), and a slew of remix collaborations with the likes of MGMT, The Very Best, Lansing-Dreiden, White Lies and many more.

Violens wanted to help new fans piece together a complete picture of their diverse influences from 60’s pop psychedelia to the slick studio production of 80’s new wave, from punk and metal to the dance club bass they were raised on in Miami… The result is their Winter Mixtape, and it is available for free at http://www.violens.net

Listener & Fienix 11/14 & 11/15 in Spokane

November 15th, 2009

Anytime I know that Listener will be coming to town I make a point to see the show. His set is creative, intense, loud, and intelligent. Not to mention Fienix his buddy and fellow creative smart musician will be there too! Fienix even wrote a book about his music. We saw them once at the Empyrean and both of them just blew us away into a sea of astonishment, smiles, and a blender of words.

Click here to check out our last writeup/photos of them and check out Listener’s new music video below! They are playing at Art Music and More tonight at 8pm for $5 and on Sunday at the Empyrean at 8pm for $5 as well! You must pick a night check them out!

What doesn’t sound appealing about Celtic punk rock? Granted it’s not summer time but nothing like a little Dropkick to get your winter going on a Tuesday night in Spokane. They are known for a rowdy good time and can kick the shit out of a crowd (in a good way that is). Not only does it sound like a hoot but it is always fun to watch seven people on stage, or better yet seven good looking men. Besides that I don’t know how many times I have listened to “Sing Loud, Sing Proud” or “Blackout” even “The Warrior’s Code” and it has just gotten me through my day. I have never seen these men and I am very excited to get my Celtic punk rock on! Ship me to the Knitting Factory!
