Flying Spiders and Matthew Winters at nYne Monday, October 25th

I just love the fact that there was an after party where your ticket from the first concert got you into the after party for free! That is a huge motivation to stay out late and check out even more music!

Flying Spiders took the stage first tonight and this was our second time seeing this organic hip hop super group. They sounded just as good as they did the first time we saw them! It was cool they had Thuy on keys the whole time, so there was a bit of a change up in the group. They all have a great chemistry on stage and just light up sparks of excitement in the scene. Som is really powerful and is good and grabbing your attention with words andmaking you think about things for a minute. I am jacked that they played another show and I look forward to seeing them again. It is definitely something you need to check out, if you haven’t yet!

Tonight we were on a mission. To see Matthew Winters play and to wish him a HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Yep, it was his birthday today! Plus we hadn’t seen Matthew play since this summer back at the Junction. It was great to hear him play and sing along to our favorite songs like “Dandelion,” & “Cute and Stabby.”  Matthew never lets us down live, and its getting to the point where we know a lot of his songs. In other words I could be a back up singer… just kidding MATTHEW! I had almost forgotten how much we enjoy his live sets. AND, Matthew we hope you have a killer year full of great people, grand music, good food, and cheap drinks… HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

The Grownup Noise & Mark Ward on Friday, August 27th at Nyne

I would like to say were friends now. Yep… after spending some time together with Paul, Adam, and Dave of the Grownup Noise earlier in the day I would like to say we are friends. Anyhow it was a lot of fun to have them in the studio with a more “bare” simple sound then to see them a few hours later on stage with more sass but still the serene engaging vocals of Paul. Paul’s vocals reminds me of Ben Gibbard, they kind of lift me up and float my senses; smooth and relaxing. Plus they all know how to play multiple instruments and are changing them and moving around a bit on stage. I LOVE that! The music alone is very catchy!

Nyne is a killer space too. HUGE, probably holds 300-400 people standing with no tables. The place has a basketball court; but don’t let that fool you it’s very hip and classy. The basketball court did get used as a dance floor though, which I thought was awesome because it’s hard to get kids to dance at live shows in Spokane.

Mark Ward opened for the Grownup Noise and it’s always a treat to see Mark. I listen to a few songs off his latest album all of the time! So, it’s fun to be able to hear them live and sing along. Plus he got a kick drum, so he can play the acoustic guitar and still have a little fun with the kick drum when he is playing by himself. The Grownup Noise even brought Mark up to play the kick drum for “Vampire Love Song.” Which the Grownup Noise made sure to say they wrote “Vampire Love Song,” seven years ago, way before this whole vampire craze right now.

I really liked seeing this edition of the Grownup Noise, however I must say I hope they get to come back in the future so we can also here the cello live which is so beautiful in “Oldest Running Feature.”  Dave you will have to fly back up from Cali too! They are very talented musicians and have a passion for music, yet have a blast doing so. A girl even managed to get up on stage and shake some maracas! Great live band, and great people. If you missed the show do me a favor and check out their myspace so you don’t miss them next time. That means there will need to be a next time guys, possibly in a new veggie oil van! : )
