Jim Boyd Band at the KKZX Studios on Thursday, May 12th
98.9 KKZX had a special afternoon concert with the Jim Boyd Band this Thursday afternoon for about thirty people. When the band was setting up the first thing I noticed was their electronic drum set; I had never seen one before! It was pretty wild to hear it live too, because I couldn’t really tell that is was electronic.
It was really cool to have the Jim Boyd Band play an intimate concert for thirty minutes on a Thursday afternoon. For a three piece they had a great relaxed rockin’ blues style with a few rustic country notes tied in that had everyone tapping their feet. Some of the songs they played for us were “Hell Raisers on Harley’s,” “Fall Before You Rise,” and even a Blackfoot Cover of “Train Train.” We did learn that Jim is a Harley man for sure; you don’t talk about those Hondas.
I went back and found out he has won quite a few NAMMY’s from the Native American Music Awards; he has won everything from Record of the Year to Artist of the Year… that’s pretty impressive!
The Jim Boyd Band was performing at a cancer benefit at the Bing Crosby Theater later that night and it was very sweet of them to come early, and take the time to perform a few songs for a crowd at the KKZX Studios. Everyone at the mini concert had a great time and all I could hear were nothing but positive comments from the crowd to the band after the show.
