Best Coast

By Andrea Williams

Best Coast at Stage 54 on Sunday, October 31st aka Halloween Night

Spokane is pretty lucky to have such a hip new band float through town. I know we were very excited to see what the buzz was about, and we didn’t leave disappointed.

Bethany, Bobb, and Ali were dressed in their Halloween costumes like a Cat, Pirate, and like a death costume cape which looked creepy but lovely! Bethany sings like the girl next door while playing guitar and is as cute as a button, Bobb keeps it going on guitar as well and Ali dances (musically not literally) on the drums. No bass guitar, which I love! It is low-fi and fuzzy but good fuzzy like the fuzz on a freshly picked sunny state peach! People say surf pop… I agree but we don’t have the luxury of surfing or a beach in good ol’ Spokane, kind of a bummer. However I could totally see myself listening to this as the sun is shining down and we are driving in a convertible.

Best Coast songs are really fun to sing along too and they will be stuck in your head for a while especially two of my favorite songs “Boyfriend,” and “When I’m With You.” We just bought their latest album “Crazy For You” and love everything about it. Listening to it right now, yep!

It was cool looking at the crowd and seeing how kids with giant X’s on their hands were just standing there with big smiles on their faces and others singing along to every word. The crowd size was pretty good! We haven’t been to Stage 54 before and it is a big space to fill. They have great sound and killer lights at Stage 54…pretty intense yet awesome. There was plenty of room to dance and you can have an adult beverage and totally see the stage from the bar, which is a major plus. We hope to see more shows at Stage 54 soon.

Overall we paid $12 to see Best Coast and they were worth every penny. I’m hope we will see them again hopefully outside next summer. I’m sure when we do we will talk about how great it was that we saw them at an intimate venue in Spokane touring off their first album. Until then pick up “Crazy For You” your ears will be thankful.
