Ryan Star

By Andrea Williams

Ryan Star KCDA Studios on Monday, July 26th

Ryan Star dropped by the KCDA Studios today and had all of the ladies “smitten” and everyone laughing! The mini concert started when he almost dropped his guitar and joked about singing a cappella… from there on out there was plenty of giggling in between songs!

Ryan’s first song he performed for us was “Brand New Day,” which is also the theme song for the television show Lie To Me. Then Ryan played “Last Train Home” that had all the girls swooning because it was in P.S. I Love You. The second he said the movie name all the girls were sighing… he joked and said he wrote the movie, that he was Gerard Butler; which made the ladies laugh and sigh since well that movie and Gerard is like every girls favorite new love story!

Ryan was saying how when he sings “Last Train Home” he always wants to cut in with… (he showed us) “I would do anything for love, I would do anything for love, but I won’t do that;” a little Meatloaf lyrics for yah. It fit when he mixed it in with “Last Train Home.” Very funny.

We were allowed to ask questions and one of the questions asked was when did he first get involved with music. His brother and sister gave him the middle name Star because he was so involved with music at a young age. He said he was the only 3rd Grader who cut class to take music lessons. The first instrument he played was the Saxophone. He said that if it wasn’t for Pearl Jam & Nirvana saving his life he would have been an inspiring Kenny G. We also learned that Ryan Star got to play the CBGB when he was a kid, and that his favorite animal is an Elephant. Also that Elephants paint pictures that you can buy online… he said to look it up so I found a YouTube video for you to watch HERE!

Ryan’s 3rd song was a cover by Peter Gabriel called “In Your Eyes” where we got to sing a long a bit. I am sure it couldn’t compare to the Backstreet Boys, however it wasn’t too off key. Last but not least he ended with his current single “Breathe!” It was a treat to see Ryan play with just his acoustic guitar and on a Monday afternoon. Ryan Star’s new album titled “11:59” comes out next Tuesday, August 3rd! Make sure to pick up a copy or check him out on iTunes!
