Album Haiku: White Crosses by Against Me!
Sounds more pop than punk.
It still has punk rock lyrics.
Lost their edge a bit.
3 out of 5
Songs we can’t take off repeat; “Rapid Decompression,” “White Crosses,” and “I was a Teenage Anarchist”
I was not a Teenage Anarchist but I can relate to the song “Teenage Anarchist” being a dorky kid in high school that loved punk rock music but didn’t dress cool, have a Mohawk, skateboard or get into tons of trouble. At the same time you couldn’t pull the Pennywise, NOFX and Minor Threat CD’s out of my CD player. I love Against Me! and have been a fan for years. I thought that New Wave was the best punk album I’ve heard in the past few years. White Crosses just sounds over polished and really poppy. The song writing is still great but the music in between the lyrics are well… polished, poppy and a little boring at times. I guess to me punk albums are rough and fast with no keyboards. At least they still put on one of the best live shows I’ve ever seen in my life.
