Songs of Leonard Cohen – Leonard Cohen
7” – Gogol Bordello – A. We Comin’ Rougher (Immigraniada) B. Trans-Continental Hustle
I’ve been a record collector most of my life. I’m trying to get back to listening to full albums and get out of the rut of listening to singles all the time (in the day and age of iTunes). With that said I’m going to listen to a classic full length album every day (possible). I’ve also collected 7” so I’m also going to listen to one 7”a day instead of pulling up the song on a computer or my iPod.
Songs of Leonard Cohen is Leonard’s fantastic debut album released 1968. He is the best poet in the world and the perfect soundtrack for a rainy crappy day in Spokane. The Album begins with “Suzanne” and ends with “One of us cannot be wrong”. 10 perfect Leonard Cohen songs! I truly forgot how great the entire album was. I also like that the sleeve of the record is an order form to order other records from Columbia for $1 – $3 dollars (man I wish records were that cheap today). This is fun to listen to full albums again. The sound of vinyl popping is so warm and great!
Gogol Bordello – For the 7” I decided to pick things up and play a few new tracks from Gogol Bordello produced by Rick Rubin that I pick up on Record Store Day. “We Comin’ Rougher (Immigraniada) is a thunderbolt of a song that moves a million miles per second, the entire 3 minutes and 43 seconds. I liked the B-side Trans-Continental Hustle but “We Comin’ Rougher is my jam on this 45. The new album Trans-Continental Hustle arrived in Record Stores yesterday and if these two songs are any indication… we are all in for a treat. It’s also great that this 7” was pressed on green vinyl.
