Dierks Bentley April 14th 2010 Couer d’alene Casino
Couer d’Alene Casino was the place to be on one of the first beautiful spring evenings in the northwest. We took the quick 34 mile drive from Spokane to the CDA Indian Reservation. Upon our arrival I couldn’t help but notice that they had filled what was before a parking lot, with new construction. Towering buildings overlooking the rolling hills of the Palouse, soon to be filled with the lights and sounds of tribal gaming.
Tonight was a special Wednesday night for all country music fans. Dierks Bentley was hitting the stage and to see him in this type of setting is an opportunity that hillbillies from all over jumped at. If you’ve never seen a show at the Couer d’Alene Casino you are missing out. This venue provides a very different scene for concert goers. Seeing a show at the current expo room (with a giant sequin covered rainbow hung over the stage and HORRIBLE acoustics) is similar to seeing a major concert at your high school. The crowd didn’t seem to care though. Paying their $50 for general admission and swilling on 5 dollar cans of Bud Light Lime, they were stoked.
Earlier in the day Dierks had made a phone call to the #1 country station in Spokane KIXZ 96.1 and told the crew that he was under the weather, but was still ready to give the crowd a great show. Having seen Dierks before with Brad Paisley (read that review HERE ) I knew that no matter what, Mr. Bentley would still rock the reservation.
Dierks hits the stage with his band and instantly the crowd grew ten fold. They must have set off the concert alarm in the casino because I was the only one on my part of the floor at 7:05, but at 7:07 I was swarmed by 50 year old women with Kate Gosselin haircuts, choking on Bud Light Limes, cackling loudly as they referred to themselves as cougars.
Despite the MIWNF’s, the show was great and I even cut loose for few minutes on the dance floor. Good thing I wore my cowboy boots!
Here’s to you Dierks! You ROCKED!
