2010 Spokane County Interstate Fair

By Andrea Williams

2010 Spokane County Interstate Fair on Friday, September 17th at the Spokane Fair & Expo Center

After a long week we managed to sneak over to the fair for an evening. Even though we work the fair every single day and a few days in before and after for our grown up jobs; it is still fun to go the fair “for fun.” The animals, the crafts, the food, and the rides – love them all!

Being the music fans we are of course we had to pick out all of the music related things we saw at the fair! We caught Mon Cheri on the North Stage playing “San Francisco,” while we had a King Corndog and the “Big Boy” funnel cake that was powdered covered in fresh strawberries and ice cream topped off with whip cream. We had to check out the Alaskan Pig Racing and before the races started the MC totally did an air guitar solo to Queen’s “We Will Rock You.” The pigs were so CUTE, with the funniest names like Sourdough Jack, Sloppy Joe, Strawberry, and Bob.

After the pigs we were distracted by this Bubble thing for kids where they pretty much train to be Wayne Cohen. I was pissed it was $8 and I couldn’t do it because I am an adult.

I like seeing all the cool crafts kids make and adults, especially the baked goods! Some 13-14 year olds really do know how to decorate a cake! One craft really stuck out to us because it had two things we love music and Mario! We love looking at all of the agriculture presentations as well; like the bees! Had to buy some yummy honey!! When we were staring at the bees Matt found these scarecrows and of course there was a rockin’ scarecrow!

We laughed our asses off at the Hypnotist. He had these people river dancing and pretending to be Miley Cyrus with back up dancers. Oh and Chippendales!

After checking everything out we went to the carnival rides and rode the GIANT WHEEL. Little scary for me just because it was so high up! The interesting thing was right next to it was the Moon Walker MJ Fun House! It was a little creepy, the kids running in-between us because we weren’t going fast enough was the creepiest. Oh and there is a slide built inside that was a surprise!

Last but not least since we were at the fair we went in and heard 1 song from Hinder. The worst part was how they had a lady signing it, and I felt embarrassed for her because she had to sign lyrics like “…I want to fuck you…suck my…” it was awkward. We left.

Overall the fair is fun for a night! One bummer… I forget to ride the big slides! Oh well I know they will be back next year.
