Erik Hassle & Victor on Tuesday, April 27th at the KCDA Studios
21 year old Erik Hassle from Sweden won over the KCDA Studios this afternoon! Despite no sleep because they played at the Viper Room in LA at Midnight last night – they didn’t seem tired at all, pretty amazing! Erik is from a small town two hours south of Stockholm; and when he was 15 he moved to Stockholm to study music. When he moved to Stockholm he met Victor and now they are each others (as they joked) girlfriend substitutes as they travel the world spreading his music.
This was their final radio tour stop before they go home back to Europe, which I am glad I had the opportunity to see them! Their radio tour had been going on for almost a month and Erik said they had been to almost as many states as there were days on the tour.
Erik Hassle opened up with a polite tune called “Amelia” which is track 12 off his new album “Pieces.” I was instantly swooned by his sugary soft vocals and harmonies with Victor. Together the two sounded incredible. Also, they both played an acoustic guitar beautifully. The next song he played was “Standing Where You Left Me” which was a faster song. It was neat to see both Erik and Victor bobbing their heads to the quick paced acoustic intro. You could tell there is a lot of emotion and story to the music; he cares about it.
A lady in the audience asked Erik to play his favorite song and so next he played “First Time.” First Time is a song, as Erik said, the first time he shared bed with a lady. Lastly Erik played his current single “Hurtful.” We were able to ask Erik questions and a good question asked was in Sweden do you sing in English. Yes, Erik sings and writes in English and translates the Swedish in his head. Even his album in Sweden is in English. He explained to us that when he got into music he got into American Soul so it fit for him to sing in English. Languages talk differently; it was almost natural for him to speak/sing English.
Erik said out of all of the radio tours he had been on this past month that this was one of the best. He was happy to play in something outside of a conference room; to play with electricity! The two sounded great and it was a nice treat on a rainy day in Spokane. You can check out Erik Hassle at his website (including his new album Pieces) HERE!
