G Love and Special Sauce at the Spokane Knitting Factory

By Andrea Williams

G Love and Special Sauce at the Knitting Factory on Friday, April 22nd

After watching Leon Redbone for a while we had a second show to cover tonight which just so happened to be next door! This was my third time seeing G Love and Special Sauce tonight, and third sounds small when you hear our friend Michelle talk… I think she has seen him over twenty times! It was cool to see Michelle not only bring her boys down to the show but pull out her colored G Love vinyl hoping to get it signed. When we walked into the Knitting Factory the place was packed of people of all ages from little little kids to adults celebrating the 30th Anniversary of their 30th Birthday. It was a great family show especially since the music is perfect for dancing, in which a lot of the place did!

I was kind of giggling when G Love first came out on stage and sat down to play his guitar and harmonica, because we just saw Leon Redbone do the exact same thing. Tonight was a night of men who can play the hell out of bluesy music in a chair. Even though G Love was sitting down for the first part of the night he was still super animated and had a lot of energy; and he did stand up and start to really let loose a few songs into the set. On stage with G Love was Jeffery on drums, Mark on keys, and Timo on stand up bass. They had a great on stage chemistry and kept the night laid back but still fun and sassy.

G Love played songs for us from everything about coffee to basketball. It was a really cool to see songs that everyone in the audience knew because they were all singing along. The place went a little crazy during songs like “Cold Beverage,” in which it should of. I can say there were plenty of cold beverages been sipped in the bar during that song as well. Some of the other songs G Love and Special Sauce played for the crowd were “Milk and Sugar,” “Shooting Hoops,” “You’ve Got to Die,” “Baby’s Got Sauce,” “Fixin to Die” and plenty of more.

G Love is a talented musician, and it appears as he loves to do what he does. Plus you got to give the man a high five for making me stay out late when I was up at 4am!
