George Thorogood at the KKZX Studio Lounge on Monday, August 8th
Hello, I’m George I don’t play I just drink with the others. That was George Thorogood’s opening line to a packed KKZX Studio Lounge on Monday afternoon. Everyone in the audience was so excited and even a little nervous to be there, in a room that close with George. I must say one of my favorite parts about this mini concert was getting to hear everyone’s George Thorogood stories in the lobby before the mini concert. Stories of the first time they saw George or how many times they have seen him in concert, and how they had the chance to meet him before.
George Thorogood looked damn good for his age with designer jeans, a white and black snake skin jacket, sunglasses (that he never took off) and even a KKZX Blues Show T-Shirt that Ted Todd from the show gave to him personally. It was pretty awesome he put the shirt on right away and rocked it for the mini concert. George had a lot of personality and was just eating up the crowd’s excitement! Aside from playing a few acoustic songs for us George had some things to teach us and some great stories to tell. Like how Rock N Roll is everywhere, you Rocked the Vote, you Rock the Baby to sleep, You Rock to have a baby. He was a very down to earth and a funny guy. I mean how awesome is it that in 1980 he did a 50/50 tour where he performed 50 concerts in 50 states in 50 days. Three of the songs George Thorogood treated us with were “I Drink Alone,” “One Scotch One Bourbon One Beer,” and even Cheech & Chong’s “Up In Smoke.” Thanks George for taking the time to perform a mini concert in a radio station a day before your actual show!
