Misfits

By Andrea Williams

Misfits on Tuesday, November 9th at the Knitting Factory Concert House

I am sure wherever the Misfits were on Halloween night this year, it was out of control. However, I am way bummed they weren’t in Spokane because it would have been legend, wait for it, dairy. This aside tonight was all about classic, fast, horror punk.

The anxiousness was throughout the room as a black curtain hung in front of the stage. You know when there is a curtain it’s going to be good. All the sudden the lights drop in the house, the Halloween Movie Theme Song starts and two grim reapers walk out on stage. Creepy! They take these long hooks out and pull down the curtain to reveal a haunted stage set up featuring skeleton covered microphone stands, two large Misfits masks and a lot of other frightful delights. It was a simple entrance but one of the cooler ones I have seen, by far.

I do scratch my head as to why SPOKANE couldn’t have a KILLER Misfits re-unionish gathering since Danzig is in town on Sunday at the Knitting Factory and well Jerry was in town tonight. They couldn’t meet in the middle? That would have been unforgettable!

Jerry, Dez, and Robo did a hell of a job rallying through songs tonight. I love the idea of yelling the song titles, then 1 2 3 go and just kicking your ass with the song. There was even a circle pit, with high hair, leather, jeans, converses, plaid, and a lot of studded clothing. Some of the songs of the night included:

“Halloween”

“Teenagers From Mars”

“Attitude”

“Some Kinda Hate”

“Astro Zombies”

“Skulls”

“I Turned Into a Martian”

“20 Eyes”

“Angelfuck”

“Hollywood Babylon”

“Vampira”

“London Dungeon”

“The Monkey’s Paw”

“Dig Up Her Bones”

“Land of the Dead”

“Saturday Night”

Dez even deiced to play “Six Pack” which is a Black Flag song! Those weren’t even all of the songs and they played an encore. It was just fast punk rock fun that everyone needs on a Tuesday night in Spokane. It was super loud, I think my ears are still ringing and that’s the way it needed to be. Looking around from kids to adults people were having a great time. We even saw TC from the Cretin Hop just screaming the words to every song with earplugs in his ears. I also have to add for their age, since I believe the band started before I was born, they put some younger bands to shame energy wise. They were just sweating and not stopping till the end. It was cool to see the Misfits, another renowned band I can cross off my list with a smile on my face.
