Mon Cheri CD Release Show on Friday, June 10th at the Bing Crosby Theatre
First of all it was great to hear Kevin play a few songs in Spokane! It has been a while since we have seen him and I was quickly reminded how I have come to miss seeing him play shows in town. It was also a treat to see his brother Curran Long join him on stage for a few songs. The highlight of Kevin’s set for me was getting to hear him cover Pickwick’s “When Rosa Speaks.” I absolutely love “When Rosa Speaks” and I think that 45 has been played over a hundred times since we bought it. I completely dug Kevin’s version of the song and later in the night even noticed he was rockin’a Pickwick tee. Also keep an eye out, because Kevin has a CD coming out in a few weeks!!!
After Kevin’s set it turned into social hour (because everyone I know LOVES MON CHERI) in the very hot small little hall where the beer was served. Which BIG THANKS to Golden Hills Brewery for serving delicious cold beer. I did manage to hear a rockin’ Killers and Modest Mouse tunes from Troubadour Music. Another small detail was how cute everyone was dressed for the show; most girls were in high heels with their summer dresses on. I even saw a few gentlemen rockin’ some mighty fine western wear.
Now it’s kind of unfair here because I have been listening to “Swoon” for quite some time. I am pretty sure I was one of the only people on the floor who knew all of the songs, it was hard to hold back and not want to sing along. However they did play one new song tonight, that I hadn’t heard before and that was exciting. It’s a little wild to hear a band play a new song on their night of their CD Release show. I also love hearing music live because it’s a chance to get a little more info on the songs or back stories. Like I didn’t know Pat wrote “Backslide” for his wife or that “Bizarre Love Triangle” is one of Pat’s favorite songs to play with the band! “Swoon” is a little more guitar influenced and it was cool to see Pat really work his guitar. The band was on top of their instruments tonight yet they were still ready to let loose and have a little fun.
Now even though Tambourine Man was not at the show tonight, I guess the band was talking with him once and he said that the only goes to shows of the bands he likes in which Mon Cheri got excited because he has been to one of their shows. Tambourine Man did miss out tonight, on the ultimate dance party because… the highlight of my night was running on stage with Joe Kory and my best friend Rhiannon during Mon Cheri’s final song for the night which was a bitchin’ cover of “Proud Mary” and every artist was on stage to join in, heck Joe even got on the microphone and sang. It is going to be an unforgettable moment in my life.
The only other local show I have been to at the Bing was Karli Fairbanks CD Release show and I don’t know what it is about the Bing (other than the fact that it is so darn cute) that make’s shows so magical but both of their CD Release shows gave me goose bumps.
I think “Swoon” is an amazing local album; I love their rockin’ fun songs that the band is known for… especially when you see them live. Songs of the night included:
Pysche
Too Hard Too Fast
Backslide
Love Is Being Wanted
Street Preacher
Crazy (New Song)
Bizarre Love Triangle by New Order
Put A Little Load On Me
Changes
A Lack of Color by Death Cab for Cutie
She
Proud Mary by Creedence Clearwater Revival
