Motown Throw Down Featuring – Jane Dear Girls, Jason Jones, Craig Campbell, Gloriana, Frankie Ballard, Brett Eldredge and Ty Stone

Nashville, Tennessee – Wednesday, March 2nd

Since I was in Nashville I had to stop by the legendary Ernest Tubb Record Shop on Broadway. Ernest Tubb Records had an amazing collection of music for sale, a stage for in store performances (I can only imagine the legends that have performed on that stage) and Pete Drake’s “Talking” steel guitar. It was so great to get to stop in for a few minutes.

The Motown Throw Down was a showcase of Warner Music Nashville artists performing one song of their own and one Motown Classic. It was a great showcase. Here are all the performers and the songs they performed:

Jane Dear Girls – “Shotgun Girl” and “Do you love me (Now That I Can Dance)”

Jason Jones – “Ferris Wheel” and “Isn’t She Lovely”

Craig Campbell – “Family Man” and “Heard it Through the Grapevine”

Gloriana – “Wanna Take You Home” and “ABC”

Frankie Ballard – “A Buncha Girls” and “Superstition”

Brett Eldredge – “Raymond” and “You’ll Never Find another Love like Mine”

Ty Stone – “Blessed St. Anthony”, “Reach out I’ll Be There” and “American Style”

Some of the highlights for me was:

Gloriana – They knocked the shit out of “ABC”. What a talented group. I’m lucky to get to see them twice in the last few weeks. They will be a household name very soon.

Frankie Ballard – Man Frankie can play the guitar. He blew the very packed crowd away. He killed on “Superstition”.

Ty Stone – You can’t judge a book by its cover. At first I thought he was just a stage hand in between sets and then Ty Stone sang his first note and had more soul and talent than anyone I’ve heard in a long time. He blew away everyone in the crowd. Keep an eye out for his new album out sometime this year. He will bring us all to tears someday.

Overall it was a fantastic show that highlighted 7 very talented up and coming acts and it was surprising how faithful the Motown covers were being performed by country artists.
