Taste Tuesday’s April 2011

Taste Tuesdays at Zola on Tuesday, April 26th

I love Taste Tuesday’s the fact that you can get music and comedy in the same night, for free; in a hip bar downtown with cheap drinks is way more than just up my alley.

It’s been one week as of today that I went to this Taste Tuesday’s and you are probably like (why am I just posting it now). Well… you see it was kind of a “Tasteless Tuesday” for me, and it was not the performer’s fault. Let me explain.

Bandit Train was the band featured in April, and in case you didn’t know they are the former Please Draw In Me. I LOVE THIS BAND, they never let me down; and they didn’t tonight. There was just some sound problems at the beginning of their set, but I don’t know if there was actually someone running sound or not. The sound business was not their fault at all, either. Bandit Train is a blast; they make me want to ride Yoshi through cotton candy clouds. It’s pretty fascinating to watch Chris loop sounds from his keys and KROG, as Mike is ready to tear apart his drum kit. Mike and Chris the brother duo are by far a local favorite of mine… see their name on an upcoming show flyer, plan on attending.

Oh me oh my. I would have laughed and giggled all not long at Casey Strain and Tom Meisfjord but there was this GIANT JERK FACE in the back of the bar who decided to not only interrupt every joke but pull down his pants and show us his bare ass. Seriously grow the fuck up and shut the fuck up. Thanks to him and his tasteless humor, he ruined the two comedians sets, (in which I haven’t had the chance to see either of them) and the rest of my night. I don’t think I have ever been more annoyed at a show and I put up with a lot of shit… even having drinks spilled on me. We have seen heckling at shows before, and it’s fine (almost expected) within limits, but to do it through two entire sets is bullshit. We don’t have the talent to get on stage and tell jokes or perform, but we still respect everyone that puts their feet on the stage.

After the GIANT JERK FACE left, Lance had a tough crowd to deal with. He managed to make us laugh, and thank you Lance for recognizing we like music.

However don’t let this discourage you from going to Taste Tuesdays because the event is wonderful and one of a kind in Spokane. The other times I have gone, no one has ruined the night. The bands are awesome and the comedians will have you laughing. Tonight was just an off night, and I can hope that the above mentioned person reads this and learns some manners.

Tonight’s Taste Tuesday’s features:

FREE at ZOLA! Comedy of Lance Paullin and Ken McComb, Music of Thomas Bechard and Benjamin Gordan, Poetry of Mark Anderson and Chris Dryer.

All new next week with CRICKETS OF CASCADIA.

Big round of applause to Lance Paullin and Patrick Kendrick for doing a great job with this event! Keep it up, we are looking forward to May and we will be back!
