The Cult – Wednesday, September 22nd – Knitting Factory Concert House
Man I had a blast at The Cult last night. When Trucker Dave and myself showed up at the Knitting Factory it was cool to hear people talk about how great it is that The Cult are performing in Spokane; how they haven’t seen the band live in twenty years and even a conversation about if “Love” or “Electric” were their favorite album. Dave even had a copy of the new CD “CAPSULE ONE” that was given to him by a few members of the band when they stopped by Brews Brothers before the show. The Knitting Factory was not as full as I thought it would be for this show but the people there were diehard fans that loved every minute of the show. I might not be a diehard Cult Fan but I thought the show was great, the band sounded incredible and Ian Astbury’s vocals were outstanding (and as my friend Dawn mentioned his hair was great also). My history of The Cult was knowing a few songs then having Dawn loan me a greatest hits CD (that I gave back to her) and then seeing Ian Astbury on an off night when he was sick in Spokane Singing with The Doors. Ian was not sick tonight and rocked the place and as I said before sounded incredible. When The Cult started I looked next to me and tambourine man was dancing but with no tambourine. A few songs into the set Ian tossed a tambourine into the crowd and Tambourine Man caught it and was rocking it all night (sometimes even more than Ian was on stage). I heard all the hits I wanted including “She Sells Sanctuary”, Fire Woman”, “Love Removal Machine”, “Wild Flower”, “Rain”, “Sweet Soul Sister” and a new song called “I Assassin”. Overall my jaw was on the floor most of the night at how great The Cult sounded and Ian’s vocals blew me away every song. The show was great and the night was topped off with Dawn catching a drum stick tossed out by the drummer after the last song.
