The Globes Album Release Show at Neato Burrito/Baby Bar on Tuesday, May 10th
I happily arrived at Neato Burrito around 7:30pm so I could try and grab a seat and enjoy a a curry burrito which by far is one of my favorite things to eat in Spokane. Although the excitement of a piping hot burrito was inside my tummy, I was nervous that the place wasn’t very full… I was thinking (hello… it’s the Globes). Sure enough come 8:05pm it was standing room only, packed full of high school hipsters; we attended the all age’s early show.
I went back and looked at the things I have said about the Globes in the past two years we have seen them. Each time it seems like I write they keep getting better and better which is so true. That or I am just that stunned each time I see them. The stage presence was very confident as they were tightly packed into a corner. They were so happy to be releasing their album “Future Self” plus this is their first release on Barsuk Records. The band wrote on Facebook “We would like to take a moment today to thank the Barsuk family, our families, Ben Barnett, John Goodmanson and Eric Corson, and everyone else across the country who has given us their support. This record would not have happened without you, and we hope to see you all soon. Happy spring!”
Highlight of the night getting to hear my jam “A Stitch Couldn’t Save the World” live, which sounded crystal clear and eerily beautiful. The sound, even in the small Neato Burrito, was some of the best sound I have heard for a live show lately. To me the Globes have these gentle vocals that float across the seas of progressive rock and these thrifty complex guitar chords. They are clean, creative, and impressive. Along with getting to hear my jam and many others, they also managed to sneak in a badass cover of “Long Distance Runaround” by YES. If you haven’t had the pleasure of seeing them live, they will kick the shit out of a 40 minute set without a doubt. Or as Patrick from Mon Cheri yelled after their set “…that was hot.” I am so jacked to say, yeah…The Globes are from Spokane.
Biggest disappoint of the night… they were out of Vinyl by the time we got in line. However 4,000 Holes and Unified Groove Merchants both have their new record “Future Self” for sale now! Matt picked up his copy for $12 at 4,000 Holes and its worth your hard earned money, trust us. I also notice you can download the album on iTunes.
Congratulations to the Globes for getting “Future Self” released this year on Barsuk Records, the album is a Ten. Also Thank You to the Globes, for playing two FREE shows the night of your Album Release Show. That was awesome!
Don’t forget the Globes are playing Sasquatch! Music Festival, Saturday on the Yeti Stage!
