The Judds

By Andrea Williams

The Judds at Northern Quest Resort & Casino’s New Outdoor Amphitheatre on Saturday, June 25th

Two legendary women, who are one of thee most successful country artists, winning 5 Grammy’s, and countless awards… The Judds; what a way to start off the Summer Concert Series at Northern Quest Resort & Casino’s new outdoor amphitheatre!

Luckily the weather decided to be kind tonight and shine down rays over the crowd of people enjoying the new venue. They had food and beer outside under white tents however one of the coolest parts about their outdoor venue is that you can re-enter. In other words if you arrive too early or maybe you don’t want to see one of the opening acts you can go inside the casino and gamble, eat, or drink! We arrived entirely too early for the show so we decided to head over to the Q and enjoy some sliders and cold beer.

Since it was the first concert of their summer series, there were some kink’s to work out. There were some major seat issues but in the end it all got resolved. There are always kinks to work out in the beginning. Seats aside the venue is really nice! They did a great job adding in fresh green grass and tents. Plus you can see and hear the show perfectly from any seat in the house. The amphitheatre is small enough, where if you are standing in the back row it still seems like you are up in the front, close to the stage.

Before the Judds took the stage they had an old school radio announcer give out bits of information about the Judds in-between songs that were playing on the overhead speakers; it was a great effect. Once they took the stage Naomi and Wynonna looked

gorgeous, each with a beautiful glow and sparkling outfits. They didn’t mess around and went straight into music with their backing band. The first thing that I noticed was their harmonies, these ladies have pipes. I also enjoyed watching how much fun Naomi was having on stage; she had the biggest ear to ear grin the entire night.

Everyone knows their mother daughter history, and let’s face it who doesn’t have quarrels with their moms? What is so inspiring is that they fought through it and can write music together and tour together. They were both talking about how there were generations of women in the crowd; which by the way I could totally relate too, because both my mom and grandma were at the show tonight with me. It’s almost like their concert is a bonding experience for moms and their daughters. I do know that all three of us enjoyed the concert and all three of us have very different tastes in music.

The Judds flew from Nashville to play for us tonight, and they are still touring because as Wynonna said “Mamma’s still got it.” They had so much fun on stage and were very thankful for us coming to the show. They were glad to see that people still listen to Judds music! With sass, style, and country tunes the crowd was glad that The Judds thought of Spokane as one of the dates on their “The Last Encore” tour.

I am looking forward to more summer nights with live music at Northern Quest Resort & Casino’s new outdoor amphitheatre.
